Peshawar: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq on Monday called upon Prime Minister Shehbaz to take decisive action against usury within 20 days.

“JI is engaged in a battle against usury, which serves as the root cause of societal malpractices. If the government fails to eliminate usury, I will wage war against it,” said the JI Emir while addressing a press conference in Peshawar.

Sirajul Haq criticized Nawaz Sharif, the supremo of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), for failing to fulfill his promise of eradicating usury from the country. Siraj lamented that despite Maulana Fazlur Rehman's involvement in the opposition-led government, usury still prevailed in the country.

Siraj also took aim at Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Fazlur Rehman, accusing them of staging protests against inflation during the PTI's tenure while failing to address the even higher inflation under the PDM.

Highlighting the burden of inflation on the public, Siraj emphasized the difficulty faced by the masses due to soaring prices of essential commodities such as sugar, flour, power, and gas.

Regarding the recent decrease in petroleum prices, Siraj dismissed it as an insignificant measure, stating, “It is a mockery to make mere adjustments in fuel prices,”.

He held both the current and previous rulers responsible for the country's predicament, emphasizing their role in dragging Pakistan into a crisis.
