Torrential rain paralyses routine life in Lahore
Met Office has forecast another rain spell in different parts of the country from 3rdĀ August.
Lahore: Torrential rain in several areas of Lahore on Tuesday paralysed the routine lives of the citizens.
There was heavy rain in most parts of the city. The downpour made weather pleasant but created a lot of difficulties for the people, especially motorists and commuters, who stuck on roads.
Abbott Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Qurtaba Chowk, Jail Road, Railway Station, Dharmapura, Samanabad, Mughalpura, Ichhra and nearby areas were inundated with rainwater. Even main roads had water which affected the flow of traffic.
Several feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) tripped owing to the rain, leaving the households without electricity. Lesco officials said the feeders would be restored after the rain.
Met Office has forecast another rain spell in different parts of the country from 3rd August.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a westerly wave will likely hit the country's higher regions, while monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are also making their way inland.
In Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Chitral, Dir, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, and Nowshera isolated heavy falls are expected from the evening or night of August 2 to August 7 with short breaks.
The PMD predicts rain or wind-thundershowers in the districts of Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Waziristan, and south Punjab from August 4 (evening/night) to August 7 (sometimes with pauses).
The water flow in local Nullahs and streams in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad, and Rawalpindi/Islamabad may increase due to heavy rainfall from August 4 to 7.
Furthermore, From August 4 to 7, heavy rains may cause urban floods in low-lying districts of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore.
Meanwhile, they may also produce landslides in sensitive regions including Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
