Transporters raise fares after increase in POL prices
The commuters suffer as the transporters demand fares of their own choices.
Peshawar: The Local transporters in the city on Tuesday raised their fares by up to 20 percent without official approval following the recent fuel price hike.
Despite no notification from the district administration regarding fare increases, transporters independently raised fares by Rs15 to Rs20 on stop-to-stop routes.
This increase applies to routes connecting Karachi to Hyderabad, Larkana, and Sukkur, as well as buses and coaches operating within the city.
Earlier, the federal government raised petrol prices by Rs19.95 per litre, setting it at Rs272.95, and increased high-speed diesel prices by Rs19.90 to Rs273.40 for the next fortnightly review.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar attributed the increase to the necessity of complying with IMF commitments and imposing the petroleum development levy (PDL) on the rates. He added that the Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, was consulted before the price adjustments were made.
Due to extended consultations, the government couldn't announce the fortnightly adjustment in petroleum prices on Monday, with the final decision being reached in the early hours of Tuesday.
