ECP should conduct constituencies transparently: CJP
The Supreme Court referred the issue of constituencies back to the Election Commission.
Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan Tuesday sent back the matter related to the delimitation of constituencies to Election Commission of Pakistan.
According to details, a two-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandial heard the petitions of ECP against provincial constituencies in Sindh.
During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan remarked that constituencies are a matter of public interest, which has been several times heard in the Supreme Court.
“Election Commission should conduct the constituencies in a transparent manner, affecting the dotted circle even a little affects the candidate's votes,” chief justice remarked.
He added that Sindh is more sensitive about the constituencies, it is often complained from Sindh that constituencies have not been corrected.
Chief Justice inquired during the hearing when the ECP is conducting the general elections. Director General (DG) Law Election Commission shrugged his shoulders at this.
Umar Atta Bandial said: “As yet no date for the elections has been decided, Election Commission should resolve all issues before the elections”.
Later, the Supreme Court referred the issue of constituencies back to the Election Commission.
Notably, the constituencies of provincial constituencies PS 7, 8 and 9 Shikarpur in Sindh were challenged in the Supreme Court.
