Pakistan-US have shared interests in counterterrorism, regional stability: State Dept
The US desires Pakistan's security, prosperity, and economic stability.
Washington: The Department of State’s Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said Tuesday that Pakistan and the United States (US) have shared interests in counterterrorism and regional stability.
Vedant Patel stated during a news conference that the US is in contact with the Pakistani leadership over discussions with Afghanistan, counterterrorism, and other issues. He continued by saying that Pakistan and the US share a common interest in addressing the threats to regional stability.
According to Patel, the US is prepared to cooperate with Pakistan to combat the terrorist organizations. He continued by saying that the US supports Pakistan's efforts to combat terrorism. According to the deputy spokesperson, the rule of law must be upheld to ensure that citizens are protected.
Regarding the caretaker prime minister, the State Department deputy spokesperson said that the United States is ready to work with the interim Pakistani PM and his team.
He claimed that the interim administration is getting ready for the elections. He further stated that the US would keep working with Pakistan in areas of shared interest. The US desires Pakistan's security, prosperity, and economic stability.
The United States wants Pakistan to have free and fair elections as well as the rule of democracy and the law, he continued.
