Karachi: The People’s Unity of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) CBA union on Wednesday announced to go on strike against the privatisation of the national airline from Thursday.

President of the PIA CBA consortium Hidayatullah addressed a press conference to make the announcement that starting on Thursday, all district-level booking offices of the national airline will be shut for two hours as a symbolic strike.

He issued a 48-hour deadline for the PIA management and the interim government to abandon plans to privatize the state-run airline.

“The union will take important decisions on Friday,” he said.

Earlier, The Cabinet Committee on Privatization (CCoP) approved the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Monday, which was a significant move.

During a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization (CCoP), which was presided over by Senator Ishaq Dar, then-finance minister, the decision was taken.

The proposal from the Privatization Commission to include Pakistan International Airlines Co. Ltd (PIACL) in the privatization program was discussed during the meeting.
