Imran Khan moves to SC seeking release from jail
The top court is urged to step in and stop further arrests of the PTI leader in other matters.
Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and former Prime Minister moved to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, seeking his release from imprisonment on Thursday.
The PTI leader's legal team filed a plea to challenge the denial of his bail requests in a number of cases.
According to the plea, the PTI Chairman is the target of political retaliation because more than 180 cases have been filed against him despite being an ex-prime minister and the head of the largest political party in the country.
The top court is urged to step in and stop further arrests of the PTI leader in other matters.
The petition's respondents include the federal government, the IGs of Punjab and Balochistan, and Superintendent Jail Attock.
The suit also names the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and the Anti-Terrorism Courts of Lahore and Islamabad as parties.
In accordance with Section 184(3) of the Constitution, this petition was submitted.
It should be noted that on August 22, a two-member panel of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear a petition filed by the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) contesting his conviction in the Toshakhana case.
The bench comprises IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Jahangiri.
