Lahore: The Punjab Health Department's negligence has uncovered that an infected operation theater was restored and reopened at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

Despite efforts to address the issue, the operation theaters at PIC were reopened without successfully eliminating the infection.

The incident came to light when a comprehensive 'infection audit' was conducted after receiving serious complaints about drain water seepage in the theaters.

While the administration claimed that the operation theater was closed for ten days and restored after the infection was supposedly eradicated, the reality remains different.

Despite sterilization efforts, sources indicate that the operation theaters at PIC still harbor infection.

This poses a significant concern for patients with heart disease who might be at risk of contracting infections during medical procedures.

The design of the operation theaters has been cited as a contributing factor to the persistent infections.

The Punjab Health Minister acknowledges the ongoing efforts to combat the infection.

Reports from both public and private laboratories suggest that the infection has not been fully eliminated, even after extensive measures were taken.

Ongoing microbial swab testing is being conducted to monitor the situation.

Addressing the situation further, the health minister assured that additional measures will be taken to completely eliminate the infection.

Additionally, there is recognition of the potential risk of infection spreading through the hospital's air conditioning system, and corrective actions will be implemented to address this concern.
