New Delhi: Tensions flared between the Chinese delegation and Indians during the G20 conference held at Delhi's Taj Palace Hotel, revealing a rift in diplomatic relations.

Indian authorities reportedly raised suspicions about the unusually large bags carried by the Chinese delegates, which were classified as diplomatic baggage.

According to a report by the Times of India, hotel staff were instructed to inspect the bags for security reasons.

A staff member reportedly found a 'suspicious item' inside one of the bags, prompting a 12-hour-long investigation and questioning of the Chinese dignitaries.

The hotel staff intended to scan the bag's contents, but the Chinese delegation objected to this.

After hours of dispute, it was eventually agreed to send the bag to the Chinese embassy.

In addition to the bag controversy, the Chinese delegation's request for a private network raised eyebrows in India.

They requested a private internet connection instead of using the hotel's network.

Notably, Chinese President Xi Jinping had delegated Chinese Premier Li Qiang to represent China at the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar emphasized that New Delhi respects each country's decision on representation levels and emphasized the importance of the positions taken during discussions and outcomes achieved at the summit.
