Karachi: Another citizen in Karachi has fallen victim to the brain-eating amoeba known as Naegleria.

With this recent fatality, the total number of lives claimed by Naegleria in Pakistan this year has now reached eight.

The latest victim, an 11-year-old resident of Karachi, was admitted to a private hospital due to symptoms including fever, severe headache, and the alarming occurrence of vomiting blood.

After a series of diagnostic tests, medical professionals confirmed that the individual had contracted the deadly Naegleria infection.

This unfortunate incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by Naegleria to the residents of Karachi and the broader region.

The amoeba, known for its rapid and often fatal progression, continues to be a source of concern for public health officials.

As of the latest report, Karachi has witnessed the majority of Naegleria-related fatalities, with five deaths reported in the city.

Furthermore, one fatality each has been recorded in Quetta, Hyderabad, and Mirpurkhas.
