Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday removed ex-cricketer Salman Butt from the selection committee, as disclosed by chief selector Wahab Riaz.

“We have taken back the name of Salman Butt,” said Wahab Riaz while addressing a press talk in Lahore. The chief selector said that holding the high post, it was his responsibility to ensure that what kinds of people are with him.

“Being the chief selector, I am supposed to explain the things,” he said.

The decision came after huge criticism on the board for selecting Salman Butt as member of the selection committee.

He said that he did not want any wrong statement about Salman Butt.

On Friday, the PCB confirmed the appointment of former Pakistan cricketers Kamran Akmal, Rao Iftikhar Anjum and Salman Butt as consultant members to chief selector Wahab Riaz.

The three assumed their responsibilities in the selection panel with immediate effect. Their first assignment as consultant members to the chief selector includes the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, set to commence on 12 January 2024 following the conclusion of the Test tour to Australia.
