Civilians’ trial in military courts case: Bench hearing intra-court appeals dissolves

Islamabad:  A six-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Monday hearing intra-court appeals on the trial of civilians in military courts has been dissolved.

According to the details, the six member bench was headed by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, comprising Justice Aminuddin Khan, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Musrat Hilali and Justice Irfan Saadat.

Jawad S. Khawaja's lawyer raised an objection on the bench, requesting that the matter be referred to the Judges Committee for reconstitution of the bench.

Justice Sardar Tariq Masood said: “If we do not hear the case, then do not give arguments. The objection is being raised against us that I should separate myself from the case”.

Sardar Tariq recused himself from the bench on which the hearing bench was dissolved.

The matter was referred to the Judges Committee for reconstitution of the bench.

According to the Supreme Court, the decision to invalidate the trials of civilians in military courts will remain suspended.

The Supreme Court stated that the request of Salman Akram Raja, Aitzaz Ahsan and Latif Khosa should be held after the election.
