Elections: Security plan for Sindh, Islamabad prepared

Karachi: A security plan has been prepared for Sindh and Islamabad in view of the general elections across the country.

Inspector General (IG) Special, Provincial Election Commissioner, Additional IG Karachi and representatives of other sensitive institutions participated in the meeting chaired by Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh.

During the meeting, the law enforcement agencies approved a detailed review and plan of action to be taken to ensure security during the general election across the province.

It was decided in the meeting that the process of joint flag march and snap checking by Rangers and Police during the general election will be made more effective.

Security of entry and exit routes will be ensured, troops of Sindh Rangers will be deployed in the area as a quick response force.

In the meeting, it was emphasized that in the light of the orders given by the provincial government and the Election Commission regarding the general election, the complete observance of the prevailing laws and the code of conduct will be ensured as much as possible and strict disciplinary action will be taken against elements who violate it.

Apart from this, an additional force of 625 personnel has been assigned to the Karachi Police Chief for fool proof security during the general elections.

500 officials from 22 sectors including crime, welfare, training, legal, IT wing will perform duty in the elections. 100 assistant and deputy messengers will be on guard duty in the elections.

All the branches have been ordered to send the list of personnel to the Police Chief Karachi. The additional personnel will report to the Police Chief Office 24 hours before polling. Transportation, food and other arrangements will be the responsibility of the Police Chief Karachi.

Other 25 IT cadre officials will be awaiting orders from Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi on February 8. Heads of all branches should immediately send the list of names of officials to be provided to Additional IG Karachi.

Security plan for Islamabad

A security plan for Islamabad has also been approved during the general elections. According to the security plan, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Rangers, sensitive institutions and police will perform security duties together.

Regarding the election, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the District Returning Officer (DRO) in which all Returning Officers (ROs), police and representatives of sensitive institutions participated.

Commanding officers of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations and Pakistan Army on duty during the elections also participated in the meeting, in which the situation of possible threats on the election day and before was reviewed.

In the meeting, a briefing was given on the security arrangements of all the sensitive polling stations and the security plan regarding the general elections was approved.
