Opposition leaders express sorrow and grief over the unfortunate train incident
Lahore: Opposition leaders have expressed sorrow and grief following the horrific Dahakri train accident that has claimed 30 lives.
According to details, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif extended condolences to the families of victims and demanded immediate investigation and stern action against responsible.
He questioned the negligence of concerned authorities saying no action was taken despite presence of report regarding dilapidated condition of 13 railway tracks in Sukkur division.
He further demanded stern action against the responsible people.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman and Former President Asif Zardari has also extended condolences to the bereaved families. He asked government to provide monitory compensation to the relatives of the deceased.
On the other hand, Chief Minister of Sindh (CM) Murad Ali Shah has directed the Sukkur commissioner to unite all the district administrations and use machineries to speed up the rescue process.
He also ordered to arrange food and residence for the passengers.
Earlier today at least 30 passengers were killed and several others injured after a collision between Millat Express and Sir Syed Express between Raiti and Obaro Railway stations near Ghotki in wee hours of Monday.
As per details, several bogies of Millat Express derailed and fell on the other track and Sir Syed Express that was coming from opposite direction, collided with these bogies.
Reportedly, Millat Express was on its way to Sargodha from Karachi while Sir Syed Express was going to Karachi from Lahore.
The police and rescue teams reached the spot after getting information and shifted the injured and dead to a nearby hospital.
Rescue teams have been dispatched from Sukkur and Sadiqabad and would reach the spot very soon. The death toll in the accident is feared to rise as several passengers are trapped in the bogies.
Heavy machinery and cutters are required for the operation, said Deputy Commissioner Usman Abdullah. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the derailment and the subsequent collision, Abdullah said.
