Two Congo virus patients die in Benazir Bhutto Hospital

Rawalpindi: Two Congo virus patients breathed their last in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, authorities said on Saturday.

According to hospital sources, three patients were brought from Attock this month, out of which two died while the third patient is undergoing treatment for the Congo virus.

Benazir Bhutto Hospital Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Junaid said that Congo was a deadly virus and there was only a 10% chance of survival. "Congo virus is transmitted from animals to humans and from humans to humans.," Dr Junaid said and added that bleeding gums, nose and stool and high fever are symptoms of Congo virus.

On the other hand, the Attock district administration has banned the movement of cattle from Attock to other areas. According to the notification issued by the administration, inter-district and inter-provincial movement of cattle from Attock will be banned for seven days.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, cattle markets will be closely monitored in view of Eid-ul-Azha. The Punjab Health Department has also decided to send a special team of nine-member doctors to Attock.
