Interior Minister meets Canadian High Commissioner

The both sides discuss issues of mutual interests and bilateral relations during their meeting in Islamabad today

Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon at the Ministry of Interior on Friday.

 During the meeting, issues of mutual interest and bilateral relations were discussed in detail. Discussion revolved around Border security, immigration and curbing illegal human trafficking and drugs trafficking.

While talking to the Canadian High Commissioner, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistan is making every possible effort to secure its border, stop illegal border crossing and human trafficking. He stated that all necessary measures are being taken to increase the capability of the relevant institutions in this regard.

He added that immigration system was also being upgraded. He highlighted that further improvements are also being made in the electronic travel authorization system and visas would be issued within 24 hours.

Interior Minister pointed out that Pakistan can provide skilled manpower to Canada in various fields. He also said that migration of skilled manpower will also help in reducing the incidences of illegal human trafficking. He emphasized that Constitution of Pakistan ensures equal rights to all minorities and protection of their rights is the responsibility of the Government of Pakistan. He stated that Pakistan is providing all possible facilitation for the transfer of Afghan refugees to Canada.

The High Commissioner thanked Interior Minister for his cooperation in various fields. Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha, representative of Canadian High Commission and senior officials were also present during the meeting.
