Quetta: Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday voiced his party's opposition to the newly announced military campaign 'Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.

“If launched, it will result in more instability,” he warned, adding that political parties would suffer the consequences of decisions made by others.

Speaking at a news conference, Rehman stated, “The state's authority is weak in many areas, with banned organizations operating freely and instilling fear among the public,”.

Criticizing the current government, Rehman, who also leads the Pakistan Democratic Movement, remarked that PM Shehbaz Sharif is merely a figurehead. He emphasized the need for the state to adjust its approach towards its citizens, suggesting that investment in human capital is essential for positive outcomes.

On Saturday, the government initiated a military operation to eradicate militancy in the country.

However, this move has been jointly rejected by both the JUI-F and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
