Islamabad: The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on Monday surged by Rs50 per kilogram, announced Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the LPG Distributors Association.

Although the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had set the official price at Rs234.60 per kg, market rates have climbed to Rs280-285 per kg.

As a result of this price increase, the cost of a domestic LPG cylinder rose by Rs600, now priced at Rs3,370.

Similarly, commercial cylinders are now selling for Rs12,435, up from the government-set price of Rs10,715.

In his statement, Khokhar accused LPG marketing companies of ignoring government-set prices and selling LPG at higher rates.

Last month, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) reduced the price of LPG. According to the notification issued by OGRA, the rates were cut by Rs3.87 to Rs234 per kilogram, with the new prices taking immediate effect.
