LHC decision annulled, NADRA chairman reinstated
Court suspended the decision of a single-member bench to invalidate the appointment of chairman NADRA
Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) reinstated NADRA Chairman Lieutenant General Munir Afsar to his post.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Chaudhry Iqbal of the LHC heard the application, in which the government lawyer appeared in the court.
During the hearing, the court asked which notification was challenged in the application. On this, the public prosecutor said that in the petition, the notification of the appointment of NADRA Chairman of the Caretaker Government was challenged. The request of the petitioner was limited only to the extent of the notification of the Caretaker Government.
The government counsel took the stand that the petitioner never challenged the new role. A single-member bench comprising Justice Asim Hafeez declared the appointment of Chairman NADRA null and void. Therefore, the court should declare null and void the decision of the single bench to remove Chairman NADRA from office.
The court suspended the decision of a single-member bench to invalidate the appointment of chairman NADRA after hearing the public advocate's position.
It is pertinent to note that the Lahore High Court had approved the petition against the appointment of Chairman NADRA and declared the appointment of Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar null and void.
