Islamabad: Balochistan National Party Mengal (BNP-M) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal has called for the release of missing persons in exchange for his support in passing the constitutional amendment bill.

Given the ruling coalition’s urgent need to secure the amendment, Mengal has become a pivotal figure in the current political climate.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani contacted Mengal. According to media reports, Mengal has refused to support until the issue of the missing persons is addressed.

The ruling coalition faces challenges in gathering the necessary votes in both houses of Parliament to approve the bill, with BNP-M holding two Senate votes.

Mengal has requested to review the draft of the proposed legislation from Sadiq Sanjrani and is demanding the release of 2,000 missing individuals in exchange for his support in the Senate.
