Recent Events in colleges: IG, Advocate General called in personal capacity

Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) summoned the Inspector General (IG) Punjab, Advocate General Punjab, and Registrar of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) tomorrow (Friday) while hearing the petition filed for investigation of recent incidents in educational institutions of Lahore.

Chief Justice of LHC Alia Neelam heard the petition of citizen Azam Butt, where Rana Sikandar Advocate argued on behalf of the petitioner.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice remarked: “A case under hearing in one of our full benches. We have directed the IG Punjab to submit a report regarding the private college incident, which destroyed the reputation of this girl, even if the incident happened or not”.

The Chief Justice remarked that the IG Punjab should tell the court why the police did not act after such videos and pictures were spread. The anti-rape act does not allow the name of the victim to be published. Was IG Punjab so ignorant that he let the photos and videos go viral?

Chief Justice Alia Neelam directed that all the officers should appear in the court tomorrow along with the records while IG Punjab should also report regarding the suicide at Punjab University.

She ordered that they need a handwritten diary of the incident, not a computerized diary.

The petitioner's lawyer took a stand that the Speaker Punjab Assembly said on the floor that the Vice Chancellor of LCWU told him that they could not do anything against harassment in the university.

Chief Justice inquired what kind of complaints were there. What kind of harassment? The lawyer said that the media reported the harassment, and this word reached him. While the incident of suicide of a female student at Punjab University has come to light which should be investigated.

Later, the court adjourned further hearing of the case till tomorrow.
