Teen gets probation for sending death threats to footballer ‘Neal Maupay’
Singapore: A Singaporean teenager has been handed nine months' probation on Wednesday over sending messages to English Premier League (EPL) footballer Neal Maupay, threatening to kill him and his family.
As per details, the accused Derek Ng De Ren, will also have to perform 40 hours of community service and undergo psychological or psychiatric treatment, and take medication if required.
The 19-year-old had sent Instagram messages to Neal Maupay after his team beat Arsenal last June.
He was a junior college student when he watched an EPL football match between Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and Arsenal Football Club, on Jun 20, 2020.
He was arrested earlier this year after the messages were traced back to Singapore by the Premier League.
Under the order, Derek will avoid prison but serve community service and undergo counselling.
In addition, he will also be required to obey a nightly curfew between 22:00 and 06:00.
Meanwhile, his mother has posted S$5000 ($3700; £2689) bond to ensure he meets the conditions.
