As per details, the boy (17) was shot in the side of his face at Heritage High School and the girl (17) was shot in the leg.
Newport News police Chief Steve Drew in a news conference said, “Both were taken to the hospital and neither injury was thought to be life-threatening”
The Gunman, however, was taken into custody in the case.
Authorities believe that the suspect and victims knew one another but did not provide details.
Police tweeted through verified media that the investigation is ongoing. Students were being evacuated and sent to the tennis court on campus, according to a tweet from the police.
As the shooting unfolded the school building was evacuated, and FBI agents and state troopers searched for anyone remaining inside.
Moreover, police reviewed surveillance video from inside the school before tracking down the shooter.
Three other students were injured in the aftermath of the shooting, including one who sprained his arm and another who had asthma attack.
Reportedly, the school would go virtual for several days and pupils would not return until the incident had been reviewed.
