Delhi: The Delhi government announced to reduce the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on petrol, bringing down the price of the fuel in the city by about Rs 8 per liter.

According to Indian media reports, the state government has reduced the value added tax on petrol for New Delhi from 30 per cent to 19.40 per cent. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Delhi cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

With the reduction in tax rates, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs 8 per liter, after which the price of petrol has gone up from Rs 103.91 to Rs 95.97 per liter.

It is pertinent to remember that last month the central government had reduced excise duty by five rupees and diesel by ten rupees keeping in view the global petrol prices.

The Delhi administration did not reduce the prices after the central government reduced the prices, on which the political leaders and the people opposed the rulers and put pressure on them to reduce the prices.
