Reports of fatalities as police continues crackdown on Myanmar protestors

Despite the violence, sizable protests continued in Yangon, Dawei and Mandalay. There have been reports of casualties however no official confirmation has come in as yet.

Myanmar remains in the grip of protests after the military coup of February 1, in which democratic leaders including Aung San Suu Kyi were detailed by the army.

Disturbing footage surfaces on social media over the weekend, showing police charging at protestors while blood covered people were being led to safety. In Yangon, police resorted to firing bullets after year gas failed to dispell the huge crowd. More footage showed blood on streets after police intensified the crackdown, extended on Saturday by the military junta.

Reuters reported a doctor's confirmation to the news agency of the death of one man from a bullet wound to the chest.

Protestors remained defiant, however, despite being arrested by the police in large numbers. There were reports of another fatality from the city of Dawei where a large crowd was gathering for protests on Sunday.
