Baghdad: Baghdad International Airport was hit by rocket fire on Friday (January 28), at least six rockets were shot down, said an Iraqi security source.
Iraqi sources reported that several explosions were heard in the Al-Karkh area of ââBaghdad near US Victoria Military Base.
According to details, the attack occurred at 04:30 local time. As a result of the incident, a plane—parked at the airport, was damaged.
"At least six rockets were shot down and fell near the runway," the source said.
The photographs provided by the source show a hole from a rocket in the fuselage of the aircraft.
Moreover, photos of rockets that allegedly hit the airport emerged online.
The authorities did not report any other damage or any injuries.
In recent years, rocket attacks which U.S. and some Iraqi officials blame on Shi’ite militia groups who oppose the U.S. military presence in the region have regularly hit the complex.
