Election Commission directed him to appear before the DRO on February 05

Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday has served a notice to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s brother Zia-ur-Rehman over violation of election code of conduct during the second phase of local bodies polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
According to details, Zia ur Rehman has been summoned by the district returning officer (DRO) for running the campaign of the JUI-F candidate, Kafil Nizami, who has also been directed to appear before the DRO on February 05.
The notice made this clear to Zia that since he was a civil servant, he could not in any case participate in an election campaign, and that his picture printed on a banner of his brother’s party JUI-F was a clear-cut violation of the elections’ code of conduct.
“Not only that, you also participated in the election campaign of JUI-F candidate Kafeel Nizami in Dera Ismael Khan by addressing a public gathering held in this connection,” reads the notice.
This is not the first time that Zia ur Rehman has remained part of controversy despite being a government employee.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja has also ordered to deport Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur from the district.
Earlier in July 2020, Sindh government had appointed Zia-ur-Rehman as Deputy Commissioner Central Karachi.
