Islamabad: Pakistan on Friday morning reported three daily deaths from Covid-19, despite a recent rise in cases linked to the Omicron variant.
According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 329 persons were tested positive while 3 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours. Pakistan's COVID death toll remained at 30,336.
Pakistan imposed new restrictions to curb the fast-spreading Omicron variant, hence, the positivity rate now stands at 0.69%. While the cumulative tally of the country has now climbed to 1,523,401.
As many as 1,484,718 patients have recovered from the disease.
March 23 was the first day without any recorded deaths in Pakistan since the pandemic took hold in 2020. Official death figures are typically lower at weekends and holidays because of a lag in reporting.
Punjab
The number of patients swelled to 504,577 in the province with 13,551 causalities.
Sindh
The number of infections has surged to 574,157 in the province, while the death toll has reached 8,092.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The confirmed cases have surged to 218,777 in the province with 6,307 casualties.
Balochistan
There are 35,460 confirmed cases while 378 patients have died from the infection so far.
AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
There are 43,227 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 792. On the other hand, there are 11,673 cases in GB with 191 coronavirus deaths.
Islamabad
There are 134,991 cases in the capital city while 1,022 people have lost their lives.
