Lahore: Minutes before the crucial session to elect the Punjab Chief Minister could begin formally, massive ruckus took place at the Punjab Assembly, demonstrated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members.

According to details, the Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari was was subjected to severe violence by PTI's lawmakers when he arrived to formally begin the session.

Reports stated that Mazari was even slapped and got his hairs pulled by the enraged members, following Mazari was immediately escorted to his chamber by assembly guards.

The already delayed session, which was scheduled to start at 11am will now convene after Zuhar prayers.

The aggressive PTI members caused huge rumpus, bringing "lotas" to the house and started chanting slogans. Several videos circulating on social media show PTI lawmakers, including women members, tossing “lotay” in the air.

Former provincial minister Khayal Ahmad Kastro and former adviser to the chief minister Omar Farooq were also involved in the scuffle, however, assembly members and security personnel intervened.

Later, the Deputy Speaker left the House.

A tough competition is expected between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Hamza Shehbaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Pervaiz Elahi.

During the session, the members of the House will vote to elect the new provincial chief executive.

The session was being held after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected the pleas of Speaker Pervaiz Elahi and restored the powers of Mazari to conduct the election today.

Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari was set to start the session at 11:30 am but it could not be begun due to ruckus in the provincial assembly.
