Reportedly, the car was rented out by Tahir Nazeer—a Muridke resident.

Muridke: The man who hit Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and ex-PM’s aide Shahbaz Gill’s car on Motorway has been taken into custody, GNN reported Friday.
According to police, the man identified as Wajahat Ali was driving the car when the incident took place on the highway, but fled the scene after seeing Gill coming out of the vehicle.
As per suspects’ initial statement, he was going to Islamabad with his family on Thursday.
“When I reached the motorway, my car bumped into Gill’s vehicle by mistake,” he said in statement.
Reportedly, the car was rented out by Tahir Nazeer—a Muridke resident.
The unfortunate incident took place due to Wajahat Ali’s negligence and there was no planned attempt to harm former federal minister, said police.
The Muridke police further revealed that the apprehended has been handed over to Hafizabad police due to jurisdiction issues, while further investigation is underway.
Shahbaz Gill, who sustained injuries, was travelling with his friends when his car turned turtle at Salam Interchange on Motorway. He was travelling from Lahore to Islamabad.
Following the road accident, Dr Shahbaz Gill stated that he had escaped an “assassination attempt”, adding that his car was chased and deliberately hit under a plot.
In photos available on social media, Gill can be seen standing near his car with a water bottle in his hand.
Later, the PTI leader, in a series of tweets, claimed that the incident was “attempted homicide”.
“I want to tell those who attacked me that I am alive because of the Almighty and the prayers of the nation,” he tweeted.
Taking notice of the accident, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif directed concerned authorities to ensure justice in the investigation process.
