First Test, Day 2: Fawad hits century as Pakistan dominate over South Africa

Pakistan resumed batting with six wickets in hand on second day of the match as it lost four wickets to Porteas on Tuesday for 33 runs.

Fawad Alam remained in spotlight as he cracked his first century on home soil in a style. It is the third international century in his life career comprising just eight matches.

Faheem Ashraf made 64 runs, Azhar Ali 51 while Mohammad Rizwan was sent to pavilion on 33 runs. Pakistan were 308-8 at stumps.

The fast bowlers of the visiting team took four wickets on the second day.

Hasan Ali (11) and Nauman Ali (6) will continue to bat on the third day of the match. 

Pakistan on Tuesday lost four wickets on 33 runs on the opening day of the first Test at National Stadium in Karachi after reducing South Africa side to a small target of 220 runs.

Imran Butt, Abid Ali, Babar Azam, and Shaheen Afridi were sent back to the pavilion as Proteas bowling line dominated the host team in the first of the two-match series, marking South Africa's first visit to Pakistan in 14 years.

Opener Abid Ali’s stumps uprooted by pacer Kagiso Rabada, who also sent Imran Butt to the pavilion.

Azhar Ali and skipper Babar Azam then tried to lower the pressure by playing cautiously but they could not save the wicket for long.

The Proteas won the toss and chose to bat against Green Shirts in first of two-match series at Karachi’s National Stadium today.

Spinners Nauman Ali and Yasir Shah derailed South African batting line by clinching two and three wickets respectively.

It is the first tour by the South African side to Pakistan after a 14-year break.

Led by Quinton de Kock, the visiting team will play two Tests and three T20I matches against Pakistan during their tour.

Earlier yesterday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 17-player squad for the first test match against South Africa. The team has been finalized after consultations with Captain Babar Azam.
