Punjab Assembly session adjourned till June 6
The session was scheduled to begin at 12:30 pm
Lahore: The extraordinary session of the Punjab Assembly was adjourned till June 6, after wrapping up a no-confidence motion against Speaker Punjab Assembly Parvez Elahi, GNN reported on Sunday.
According to details, the panel of chair initiated the proceedings of the provincial assembly and called out the mover of the no-confidence motion against Speaker Punjab Assembly Parvez Elahi. However, after repeated calls, the mover did not turn up, resulting in disposing off the no-trust motion against Speaker Parvez Elahi.
Afterward, the meeting was adjourned till June 6 shortly after its commencement.
The session was scheduled to begin at 12:30 pm. However, the session couldn't be started on time as the lawmakers were stopped from entering the premises.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened around the Assembly amid rising political tensions in Lahore on Sunday morning. A heavy contingent of police was deployed while Assembly employees were also barred from entering the premises of the House.
The political situation intensified Sunday morning with the arrest of PA Director-General for Parliamentary Affairs Rai Mumtaz after the announcement of an emergency session. The police have been directed to stay on high alert and a heavy police force has been deputed in the surroundings of the provincial assembly.
