Peshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Tuesday stated that he will carry on with the party's 'Long March' despite Federal Cabinet’s decision to stop the rally towards Islamabad—terming it biggest procession in country’s history.
While addressing a press conference along with other party leaders, the ousted Prime Minister Khan stated that he will lead the biggest procession in Pakistan’s history tomorrow (Wednesday).
The remarks came after a countrywide police crackdown against PTI members and leaders in several cities of Pakistan.
During a raid on one of the PTI leader's home in Lahore's Model Town, a police officer identified as Kamal Ahmed was shot in the chest and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to DIG Operations Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry, the suspect fired the bullet from the rooftop of a house and killed the cop.
Police, however, is still investigating the incident.
“The Sharif family adopted same tactics as military dictators since 1985,” he said while criticizing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.
Khan stressed that they tend to recall democracy as soon as they lose power, asking if the PTI government had tried to stop them the way the PML-N government did last night.
“They barged in people’s house, without warrants, invading privacy of women,” he stressed, adding that police entered the house of a retired army major—referring to a video that surfaced on social media in which a girl is in tears, saying that the cops harassed her abused their power.
He demanded the judiciary to intervene into the situation.
“The nation is watching the role of neutrals in the whole scenario,” he further added stating that public would soon pass a judgment on them (PML-N).
Recalling the then-opposition’s marches, Imran Khan stated: “They never interfered into their rallies towards Islamabad”.
The cricketer-turned politician urged general public to exculpate the chains of fear to get rid of the imported government while emphasizing the youth to come out in the ‘Azadi March’.
