Washington: At least nine people sustained gun wounds in the northeastern US city of Newark, multiple media outlets reported.

According to the reports citing police, the mass shooting occurred on the 200 block of Clinton Place at around 6:20 pm.

The victims, including a juvenile, were transported to hospital. All of them are reportedly in stable condition.

The incident is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.

The mass shooting came less than a week after U.S. President Joe Biden signed into law what had been touted as a gun safety bill.

Over the past six months, there have been more than 21,800 deaths from gun violence and 296 mass shootings across the United States.

Officials have not yet said what led up to the shooting.
