SC ruling on no-confidence motion: 'If cabinet grants permission, I'll arrest Imran': Sanaullah
The government announces action under Article 6 of the Constitution against former Prime Minister Imran Khan
Islamabad: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday said he would arrest Imran Khan if the cabinet gave approval of the action after the Supreme Court verdict had invoked the violation of Article 6 of the Constitution by the former prime minister.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said work has started for action under the Article 6.
Sanaullah said the Constitution allowed the filing of a reference, so the Speaker send a reference of disqualification against Imran Khan to the Election Commission to de-seat Imran Khan.
The minister said in the additional note of the decision of the Supreme Court, a detailed statement had been issued on the violation of the Constitution, as it had been clarified that the President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker had betrayed the Constitution. "Not only betrayal but also fraud has been committed with the constitution of the country."
He said the punishment for this betrayal was enshrined in the Articles 5 and 6 of the Constitution, adding a person sitting in the Presidency should abide by the Constitution and this decision and should resign.
The minister further said after the Supreme Court's judgement, Imran Niazi's politics had come to an end. "Imran Khan has committed fraud with the nation and the constitution to save his power."
"I am ready to arrest Imran Khan for which I have requested the cabinet. The cabinet should take a decision considering this," the interior minister said.
Sanaullah revealed that he had intended to arrest Sheikh Rashid in the long march, but the latter was unable to be caught.
