COAS Qamar Bajwa hints at retirement after term ends

Washington: Army Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Wednesday announced retirement plans after the completion of his tenure, saying that the ‘armed forces have distanced themselves from politics'.
As per details, the statement came during his address at a luncheon at Pakistan Embassy in Washington.
Speaking informally on the occasion, General Qamar Javed Bajwa reiterated his resolve to leave after the completion of his term this November.

The Army Chief said reviving the country's ailing economy should be the first priority of all segments of society as without a strong economy it's hard to achieve set targets
Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa was given an additional three-year term in 2019. However, the general still qualifies for another term.
There is a possibility that the incumbent might be interested in or looking for another extension. But as per a military source close to Bajwa, he would retire in November.
