The Astronaut: BTS’s Jin releases new solo single, music video 

Seoul: Global sensation BTS’s member Kim Seokjin aka Jin Friday released his latest solo song ‘The Astronaut’ and a splendid Music Video (MV)—with a special cameo by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. 

The video was shot extensively at locations like wild desserts, bringing an enhanced personality of the K-pop star in ruffled hair and chic suits. 

In the official video, the vocalist portrays an astronaut who is living on Earth. One day, he sees a mysterious beam calling for home and is determined to return to his planet. Chris appears as a news presenter delivering the breaking news. On his way to the spaceship, Jin gets nostalgic recalling his memories on Earth. 

Eventually, the short story sees a heartwarming ending as Jin decides to stay on Earth.   

Within hours of its release, the song has surpassed three million views and 1.4 million likes on YouTube, reaching #1 on US iTunes. 

For the unversed, “The Astronaut” marks the second collaboration between BTS and Coldplay after they released “My Universe” in September 2021 which debuted at No.1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and stayed on the chart for 17 consecutive weeks.     

Co-written by Jin and Coldplay and produced by Kygo and Bill Rahko, the pop-rock song showers the listener with love. Chris Martin himself gifted the song to Jin after the duo grew close while working on “My Universe” together.

The massive fanbase, collectively known as ARMY is also loving the single as it has a special message from Jin to his fans. Many fans pointed out that Jin has ARMY written on his neck in braille in the video.  

The BTS member would also be performing the single with Coldplay at their concert in Argentina, which will broadcast live to cinemas worldwide. The live performance will also be posted on BTS’s official YouTube channel. 

The news follows the global superstars fulfilling their mandatory military service commitment to South Korea. However, BTS would not be leaving without their trademark spark — as they’ve already received 19 nominations for MAMA 2022 and have reportedly submitted four entries for Grammys 2023, including Yet To Come and Jungkook’s Left And Right collaboration with Charlie Puth. 

Earlier this month, the group’s free BTS Yet to Come in Busan concert that was seen by 50 million people globally. As ambassadors for World Expo 2030 Busan, Korea, the K-pop superstars hosted the concert to introduce the city and the world to Korean culture. 

The group, which debuted in 2013, is currently on a break as a unit with each of the members pursuing solo projects. The acclaimed K-POP group hopes to reconvene as a unit around 2025 following their service commitment.
