Islamabad: Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood said all education and health ministers will meet on Tuesday (April 06) to decide about the reopening or further closing of educational institutions.

On his twitter handle, Shafqat Mahmood posted, “Education and Health Ministers will meet at the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Tuesday to decide whether to open or further close educational institutions”.

“The exam situation will also be discussed. Whatever is decided will be a collective decision of the country’s health and education authorities & NCOC,” he added.

Earlier, the government ordered educational institutions in 18 districts to remain closed until April 11.

The districts where schools closed include Lahore, Sheikhupura, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Sialkot, Gujrat, Multan and Faisalabad.

On March 10, the federal government had announced a two-week Spring Break in Islamabad, Peshawar and seven Punjab cities where a sharp surge in infections was reported.

Pakistan is presently experiencing third wave of coronavirus which is said to be deadlier and more contagious than previous two waves.

According to NCOC, around 5,020 cases of coronavirus were reported while 81 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours in country, taking the total death toll to 14,778.

The total number of confirmed cases reached to 687,908. As many as 613,058 patients have recovered from the disease with 3,568 critical cases.
