Islamabad: Balochistan Police on Friday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati and transferred him to Kuchlak Jail in Quetta, in a case related to controversial tweets against the state institutions.
According to police sources, Swati was on physical remand till December 3 in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
A day earlier, the Cyber Crime Wing of the FIA filed an application in the court seeking an end to Swati’s physical remand, and apprised the Islamabad court that it had completed its investigations.
Officials pleaded with the court to send the PTI leader on judicial remand, which was approved.
The 74-year-old politician was arrested on Sunday for the second time in less than two months as he secured post-arrest bail in controversial tweets case from a court in the capital city last month. Cases had been registered against him in Balochistan too.
As per local media reports, Azam Swati’s son reported that his father had been shifted to Balochistan overnight.
