Jakarta: At least 50 people have died as massive flash flooding followed by landslides hit Indonesia and Timor Leste on Sunday.

According to details, persistent rain led to widespread destruction, with flood water from overflowing dams damaging thousands of homes on the islands and forcing people to flee from the area.
The area where floods have wrecked havoc stretched from Flores Island in Eastern Indonesia to the neighboring nation of Timor Leste.
Government officials of both countries have warned that death toll could rise further as attempts are still underway to find survivors.
Indonesian Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesperson Raditya Jati told media that four sub-districts and seven villages have been badly damaged as a result of flooding.
“After verifying the data with our team in the field, we found that there are more than 50 people dead. 27 people are still missing and nine people are injured."
Those who sustained injuries have been moved to neighboring villages that were unaffected, and to local hospitals and other health centers.
Flash floods and landslides are common across the Indonesian archipelago during the monsoon season, which usually lasts from November to March.
