Karachi: During the local body elections held in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions, political activists clashed with each other at various places on Sunday.
The polling for local body elections was held in seven districts of Karachi and nine districts of Hyderabad division.
During the voting process, political workers got into dispute at different stations while at some places the election camps were set on fire.
The workers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had a dispute in Bin Qasim Pipri area of Malir district of Karachi. Meanwhile, the parties’ workers raised slogans against each other.
Due to the altercation, the polling process was temporarily stopped while a heavy contingent of police also reached the polling station.
On the other hand an accused, Haji Nizamani, who threatened the presiding officer during local body elections in Badin was arrested by the police, while his accomplice managed to escape.
The police officials stated that a case had been registered against the accused for violating the code of conduct.
In another incident, one person was injured during a dispute between the PPP and the independent candidate in Badin's Union Council 37.
In Government Pilot High School Dadu PPP Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) arrived to cast vote with workers, but PTI workers stopped them from casting their votes, on which the MPA went alone to cast his vote.
