Paris: The world’s oldest person French nun Sister Andre passed away at the age of 118 in France.

Lucile Randon, who took the name of Sister Andre when she joined a Catholic charitable order in 1944, had survived COVID last year.

Turning to Twitter, the city’s mayor, Hubert Falco announced the news of her death writing: “it is with immense sadness and emotion that I learnt tonight of the passing of the world’s oldest person #SisterAndré at 118 years old.”

According to the Gerontology Research Group's (GRG) World Supercentenarian Rankings List, she was the oldest person alive who was born on February 11, 1904.

Sister André dedicated most of her life to religious service, Guinness stated in April 2022, adding that she was also the oldest nun to ever live.

Before becoming a Catholic nun, she looked after children during World War II and then spent 28 years caring for orphans and elderly people at a hospital.
