The former Interior Minister has said that the President, under the Constitution, can announce the election date.

Lahore: Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief and former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid asked President Arif Alvi to announce the election date tomorrow or step down from his office.
“The President can give an election day under the Constitution,” said Sheikh Rashid while talking to the reporters in Lahore on Sunday.
He also said, “After God, it is only Supreme Court which can save Pakistan,” pointing out that Pakistan defaulted and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif made this confirmation during his yesterday speech.
The former Interior Minister said that the early elections were the way forward to take the country out of crises.
He said that elections would be held at the same in the centre and the provinces, adding that the PML-N is yet not clear about contesting by-polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
President Arif Alvi on Friday invited Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja for an urgent meeting on general elections. The invitation was sent to consult on elections under Section 57(1) of the Elections Act, 2017.
However, the ECP, according to the reports, conveyed to the president that consultations on by-polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is not possible at the moment.
