Imran calls for rally in Lahore, Section 144 imposed
Imran Khan anounced to lead the rally himself.
Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has called for public rally today (Sunday) at 2pm in Lahore, after which Punjab government refused to allow and imposed Section 144— which prohibits large gatherings in the city.
Imran Khan said that he will lead the rally himself. The party is taking out the rally for election campaign for upcoming elections in Punjab which are scheduled to take place on April 30.
After the announcement, Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir addressing a press conference said that they cannot allow the rally on Sunday because Pakistan Super League-8 (PSL) match in Gaddafi Stadium Lahore and a 40km long marathon and cycle race are scheduled on the same day.
Caretaker provincial minister also said that they had conveyed the message to PTI leadership to not carry out the rally on the day.
The administration held talks with the PTI and told them to move the date of the rally forward.
Reportedly, Rangers have also been called by the Punjab government to deal with any untoward incident.
