Islamabad: As part of his efforts to ensure political stability in Pakistan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, is prepared to offer an assurance for negotiations with political parties and move forward, according to the party's Secretary General, Asad Umar.
Umar mentioned that Imran Khan is willing to give an undertaking, but he also emphasized that the government should provide a similar commitment.
According to the latest reports, Imran Khan broke his tradition of not sitting with political parties in the incumbent government and announced his readiness to participate in all kinds of all-parties conferences (APC) for the sake of "upholding the Constitution."
However, he also criticized the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) as a "group of thieves" rather than a political alliance. Asad Umar, PTI's Secretary General, commented on the Supreme Court's ruling on PTI's plea against the Election Commission of Pakistan to postpone polls in Punjab. He stated that Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial emphasized the importance of all political parties agreeing on a plan of action and called for a free environment to unite everyone.
Umar added that there should be a record on the court's basis for holding the election, and that the chief justice's job is to enforce the Constitution. Umar criticized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for lambasting Imran Khan, noting that the premier previously called for the dissolution of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies for an election.
Earlier, during a press conference in Islamabad today, Umar criticized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his recent attacks on the PTI chief.
According to Umar, the Prime Minister had previously urged them to dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies to hold new elections. They complied with this request, but the Prime Minister is now refusing to hold an election.
Umar also mentioned that the Prime Minister had previously made statements about negotiations and how the PTI chairman had not agreed to them. However, now that the PTI chairman is willing to negotiate for the sake of stability and transparent elections, the Prime Minister is asking for an apology.
In a fiery speech in parliament the day before, PM Shehbaz stated that talks between the government and the PTI chairman would only be possible if the former premier apologizes for his "wrongdoings" and asks for forgiveness for all the things he has said and done.
Umar also mentioned that the Prime Minister is making such haphazard statements because he knows that the nation is against their narrative, and nobody is willing to trust what they are saying after the difficulties they have faced in the past year.
