Rawalpindi:  The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday strongly condemned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's "highly irresponsible remarks" against a senior officer of the Pakistan Army.

The military's media wing said that Imran Khan's allegations are "highly irresponsible and baseless" and that he targeted military and intelligence agencies officials with "insinuations and sensational propaganda" for political gain over the past year.

The ISPR asked Imran Khan to stop making false allegations and make recourse to legal avenues. It stated that the institution reserves the right to take legal action against patently false and malafide statements and propaganda.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also criticized Imran Khan for "maligning and threatening" Pakistan Army. In a tweet, the prime minister stated that Imran Khan's acts of "routinely maligning and threatening Pakistan Army and Intelligence Agency" for petty political gains were highly condemnable. He added that Imran Khan's allegations against Gen Faisal Naseer and officers of the Intelligence Agency cannot be allowed and will not be tolerated.

These developments are indicative of the ongoing tension between the Pakistani military and the PTI leadership. The military has been criticized in the past for meddling in political affairs, while PTI has accused the military of supporting the ruling party. The recent episode has reignited the debate about the role of the military in Pakistani politics and the need for transparency and accountability in the country.

The condemnation by ISPR has come in response to Imran Khan's comments against a senior military officer without providing any evidence. Such allegations without concrete evidence have been labeled as deplorable and unacceptable by the military's media wing. The statement from ISPR emphasized that the military and intelligence agencies officials should not be subjected to such insinuations and sensational propaganda for political purposes.
