Nation remembers writer Manto on birth anniversary
The government of Pakistan awarded Order of Excellence award to Saadat Hassan.


Lahore: The 111th birth anniversary of Urdu story, film, radio script writer and journalist Saadat Hasan Manto is being observed today (Thursday).
Saadat Hassan penned down social issues and human psychology bluntly in his piece of writings.
He turned the traditional styles of Urdu writings into modern writing styles.
The famous writer was born on May 11, 1912 in Ludhyana. After the division of sub-continent, he migrated to Pakistan and settled in Lahore city.
The theme of his stories have been the cruelty of man, helplessness of women and the time of sub-continent division.
Manto’s most famous stories include Siyah Hashiye, Dhuan, Loudspeaker, Khol Do and Toba Taik Singh. He also faced judicial penalties three times for his work.
Pakistan and India have shot films on the life of famous writers. In Pakistani movie Sarmad Khoosat played his character, while in Indian movie Nawazuddin Siddiqui performed as Manto.
The government of Pakistan awarded Order of Excellence award to Saadat Hassan.
The writer died on January 18, 1955 while fighting battle with liver disease and buried in Mayani Sahab cemetery in Lahore.
