Death toll rises as heavy rains wreak havoc in KP, Punjab

Islamabad: Devastating heavy rains and thunderstorms struck various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least 28 people and leaving over 100 injured.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority reported that rain-related incidents claimed 25 lives in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak, and Lakki Marwat in KP.

Among the affected districts, Bannu suffered the most, with 15 fatalities, 100 injuries, and 68 partially damaged houses.

Lakki Marwat reported five deaths and 42 injuries, while Karak recorded four fatalities and one injury.

In Dera Ismail Khan, one child lost their life, two individuals were injured, and one house suffered partial damage.

Rescue 1122 teams are on high alert in all KP stations to respond swiftly to any emergencies.

The interim government has issued a high alert in hospitals across the affected districts and remains in contact with local authorities.

In Punjab, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed Sargodha, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and other areas.

Tragically, three girls in Chan village, Khushab district, lost their lives when a wall collapsed due to torrential rains.

Additionally, ten people sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in Gujranwala.

The severe weather conditions also disrupted electricity supply in several regions.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir's Nakyal city and its suburbs also experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms.
