“We are trying to correct controversial decisions regarding election reforms taken in Nisar’s tenure,” says Ayaz.

Islamabad: Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms Chairman Ayaz Sadiq on Wednesday stated the idea of outlawing a political party was not being considered.
He addressed the media in a post-meeting interview that the committee's purpose was to implement electoral reforms rather than to outlaw a particular political party. In the next week, the committee would complete its suggestions for enhancements, he continued.
Ayaz continued by saying that the committee examined the proposals and that practical suggestions for holding credible elections were considered. "A lot of things were done during former CJP Saqib Nisar's tenure," he continued.
“We are trying to correct controversial decisions regarding election reforms taken in Nisar’s tenure,” he said.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will set the election date in accordance with the announcement made earlier by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the government's term will expire on August 14.
The prime minister's comments were made a day after he met with chief of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Maulana Fazlur Rehman who is in favor of calling early general elections and dissolving parliament.
“I assure you that our government’s tenure will end on Aug 14 and elections will be announced by the ECP,” the PM said. He hoped that whichever government comes, it will prioritise the education.
