Lahore: Continuous rainfall for several hours in different areas of Lahore has resulted in a record-breaking downpour, with Gulshan-e-Ravi receiving a staggering 200 mm of rainfall, the airport 195 mm, Tajpura 191 mm, Nishtar Town 190 mm, Johar Town 156 mm, and Lakshmi Chowk 142 mm.
In light of the urban flooding risk, the provincial government has directed the authorities to remain on high alert.
The monsoon rains continue to pour over Lahore, with heavy downpours persisting for the past few hours.
The city's rainfall has reached up to 163 mm, causing low-lying areas to be submerged and waterlogging on roads.
As per the reports, the highest rainfall has been recorded in Gulshan-e-Ravi at 163 mm, followed by Johar Town at 156 mm, Nishtar Town at 151 mm, and Lakshmi Chowk at 142 mm.
Waterlogged areas include Lakeview Park at 129 mm, Tajpura at 112 mm, Iqbal Town at 106 mm, and Gulberg and Mughalpura at 84 mm each.
Samanabad, Airport, and Upper Mall received 80, 77, and 77 mm of rainfall, respectively.
The torrential rainfall has been relentless for nearly three hours, causing water accumulation in different parts of the city.
To address the situation and cope with the aftermath of the heavy rains in Lahore and other cities in Punjab, Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi has directed the authorities to take immediate measures for efficient water drainage.
He emphasized the use of all available resources and machinery for water drainage and urged swift action on an emergency basis.
Naqvi has instructed officers to remain in the field until the water drainage work is completed and to ensure smooth traffic flow through effective management.
